New Years in Sydney 17 / 18

On the way to the airport in the Gold Coast it was raining and since it doesn't rain very much at all in Antofagasta, Chile, Jorge enjoyed standing out in the rain while we all stayed undercover.

We caught our flight and once we had landed in Sydney we made our way to our hotel...it was a very quick turnaround, dropping our bags and heading back out into the city.

We had booked a surprise tour around the Opera House in Spanish for Coty and Jorge.

As I had already done the tour I just chilled out in the Botanical Gardens. After we took a walk around and got some expensive ice-cream. Then it was my turn to go and watch a show in the Opera House. I got to see The Unbelievables in the Concert Hall...what an amazing venue.

In the interval I went out on the balcony and saw the Harbour Bridge once again! The show was a mixed act show with sword swallowing, sand artist and a ventriloquist plus many more.

The next day we were off to Taronga Zoo. To get there we had to take a ferry but first Joaquín and I needed to get a few things for lunch from the supermarket. So...we left Coty and Jorge on the train to get off at the next station and wait by the wharf. We gave clear instructions! When we arrived there was no sign of them...we were rushing around trying to find them in the station, the toilets and the other wharfs. The ferry we were going to catch had gone...did they get on a ferry or miss the train stop??? Where were they? We waited but the next ferry was about to leave; we made the decision that when the next ferry left we would just make our way back to the hotel and hope they would be there or eventually turn up. Next thing I looked behind me and who was standing there...Coty and Jorge! They decided that they would go for a wonder around the wharf for about 40 mins! We ran and just made the next ferry and finally we were on the way to the zoo.

We had a great time seeing the animals at the zoo. My favourite part was the Australian night animals as these are the animals I didn't really get to see in Australia.

After catching the ferry back to Circular Quay the parents went home while Joaquín and I visited the spots for the fireworks. People were already lining up...camping out in tents. We had made a decision where the best spot would be, then had to find umbrellas. The forecast was for rain the next morning plus we could use them for shade in the day.

With only 5 hours sleep we got up and made our way to the spot for the fireworks. We had to join a queue but I think we were close enough to the front to get the spot we wanted. Melanie and Cyril join us in the queue, Luis made it too. It started to rain; lucky we had the umbrellas and some ponchos. This was the start of our 17 hour wait for midnight. Bags searched, wristbands on and spot picked...we set up camp. The rain just kept coming down and down for 2 hours, we still got wet even though we came prepared.

Once it had stopped raining the sun came out dried us up and then roasted us alive! More friends managed to join us. It was so hot during the day that the neighbours came out with hoses and gave us a few showers. During the day we played card games, slept, chatted and took a few walks around the section.

We got special "VIP" wristbands for our area so we could leave and get some food and drinks from the next area and get back in. As the sun set we had an air display from planes, some early fireworks and boats lit up cruising around the Harbour.

It was a great area to be in as we had an amazing view, space and people were not pushing. The count down was on for the New Year and fireworks began. I can't described how awesome it was to actually be there watching the fireworks and spending my new years with some great people, an amazing boyfriend and being in Sydney.

 Spectacular!

Next it was time to say happy new year to all and say our goodbyes then make our way home in the crowds. It was surprisingly quick and easy.

We spent New Years day sleeping, eating, chilling out and packing our bags. I watched the UK's fireworks live on the internet and wished my friends and family and happy new years.
