With only 2 hours of sleep before our flight to Tasmaina...we arrived, make our way to the hostel to drop our bags then off to find some breakfast. We had some time to spare before we could check in so we went shopping as Coty and Jorge didn't bring any warm cloths with them! All grumpy and tired we headed back to check in, sleep, eat and get a good night's sleep.
Up early to be met by Dan our tour guide for the day. We were off to Mt. Field National Park...we climbed 37 meters to the top of Russell Falls, visited horseshoe falls and saw the tallest eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus Reynans).
These are the tallest flowering trees in the world but the second tallest in the world next to the Sequoia sempervirens in California. Next it was off to Lake Dobson which we took a walk around then had lunch. On the way back to the bus I decided to jump over this very big puddle...I landed on my face, skidding down the path but I made it! Didn't get wet but did have a hole in my glove and a bruised knee.
Monty stopped off to buy some fresh cherries.
We had many stops on this tour, next we were off to the Bonorong Wildlife Park. Coty and Jorge enjoyed seeing all the Australian wildlife and I got to see some Tasmainan devils.
Last stop of the day was up at Mt Wellington...it was rather windy up there but we had some amazing views of Hobart.
On the 2nd day we also had a tour...this time we were off with Nick to the Tahune Airwalk in the Huon Vally. We walked on a walkway 30 meters high into the treetops. Next we went on a walk down by the river and crossed over on some swinging bridges.
I was looking forward to the next stop at the Thermal Springs but I was disappointed as it was just a small swimming pool which was pumped with water from the springs and we only had 10 mins to enjoy the pool. At least the next stop on the tour was spectacular. We visited the Hastings Caves...we entered through a small dark opening and went down lots of steps. There were many stalagmites and stalactites. We got to touch one which had fallen from the roof...the stalactite was 13 million years old.
3rd and final tour we had booked for Tasmaina took us to Port Arthur. On the way there we saw the oldest bridge in Australia. At Port Arthur we started off on the free walking tour which gave us a small insight on the place and punishments. Next we went on a harbour cruise this was not very good and a waste of time. We spent some time after walking around the site and visiting the penitentiary, the asylum, prison, chapel and the two churches.
The oldest bridge
Monty in prison
Joaquin giving a service in the Chapel
Me as a prisoner in the Chapel...they had to have the service in individual boxes
On the Saturday we went to the Salamanca market and found some yummy treats and gems. Sunday was spent wondering the shops and catching our flight to Melbourne.
